Special Appearance at Gaspee Days Concert September 12th

Independence Day may have been a couple months ago, but that doesn't mean the Semiquincentennial celebrations are over yet!

On Saturday Sept. 12th (rain date Sunday Sept. 13th), 3pm-6pm in Pawtuxet Park (on Narragansett Parkway in Warwick, RI), there's going to be a special, free-admission Gaspee Days concert commemorating the oft-forgotten anniversary of the Continental Congress formally adopting the name "United States of America" as the country's new name. Yes, the term had already been tossed around in print, most famously in the Declaration of Independence, but it wasn't until Sept. 9th, 1776 that Congress made it official.

The concert will feature the West Bay Chorale, the Pawtuxet Rangers Fife and Drum Corps, and the Rhode Island Wind Ensemble... and in between the Rangers and RIWE, I'll be leading a 15-minute all-American sing-along from the keyboard! Come and join in!
